Philosophy
My philosophy in life is one of individualism; we are all different and any common characteristics are not necessarily precursors to others, whether these are self-proclaimed or diagnoses of others. In other words you cannot speak for a group: ‘As a parent/man/woman/disabled person…’
We are influenced in a greater way by things we cannot choose than by what we can, but we should be judged on this minority and not all else, a large part of my Atheism, beyond the factual, is related to this. I also consider myself an Existentialist (Existence precedes essence) and so I am sceptical about intangible claims, including a ‘Meaning of Life’.
The journey is more important than the destination.
As such I judge experience (when not in detriment to others and of acceptable risk to myself) to be my primary motivation in life. In general, I also diversify my appraisal of experience to the fields of knowledge, understanding and progress (Both intellectual and moral).
I fervently hope our descendants will be able to look back on us with pity.
I believe it is the ability of humans to reason, assess our existence and to consider our place in the universe that is our greatest elevation. These ideals and empathy of others make up my ideology. Of course, you’d be a poor Human Being if you could not laugh at yourself.
